We started raising Texas Longhorn Cattle way back in 1992. My late uncle Ernie Hartwick had raised these wonderful cattle for as long as I could remember in Riverside California. In 1992 Ernie came to Texas to attend the Eddie Woods Spring Cowtown sale to buy some of the very best WR cattle that were offered that day. I came with him and I was hooked, the only problem was we lived in an apartment, had little money, no land, no idea what we were doing. Not being the type of people to worry about the little details, We found 20 acres of land to lease. Now all We needed were some Longhorn Cattle. About a week later we received a catalog for the Eddie Woods fall Cowtown Sale, but the sale was a month away and there was no way we could wait that long. We found the Circle K Ranch and I gave W.O. and Patti Marquess a call and set up a visit the next week. Well we left there with 6 head of the best cows $3000.00 could buy, and a borrowed trailed. That is really all you have to do to get started, and along the way just keep looking out the window at how beautiful the cattle are. Someone called it right when the said they were "God's cattle".
